I have a kit here, but inserts all too small. Anybody know where I can buy just the metal inserts? Don't want to have to buy a whole kit.

ive got a rivnut kit from them and they seem a good company. always at the kitcar shows too

You need a set size drill bit, and tap. So you'll need to buy a full kit, if the hole you're starting with is too big.

I haven't had any trouble with the cheap ones on ebay.

By the sounds of it he has the set all ready, just the helicoils he has aren't long enough,

Go to an engineering workshop ask them, We're forever getting people on my place after stuff like this etc.

Local machine shop, if they can't give you any they will know somewhere local that supplies them

Been to machine shop, they had none :/

Went to buy a new kit from machine mart, and only one size of insert is supplied.

I don't quite follow what you mean. What size kit do you already have and what size are you trying to get?

If they are too short you screw another in on top.

From what he said, it sounds like he hasn't got the correct kit for the hole he is trying to repair.

Or you can do it the proper way and use a longer one...

Winding one ontop of another is ok, but far from ideal,
Usually the top one will wind it's self out, or not seat right.

I only do stuff like this daily at work...

I did think about winding another in, but never had to do it that way before so was unsure if was OK.
Going to try using just the smaller one and see if it holds

Tbh as long as the bolt is in 1.5x the diameter of the bolt in the insert, it'll be fine.
There's no actual benefit of any more.
