Bought some wheels on eBay that ideally need a refurb.

Anyone got any recommendations for a place in the Derby area? I don't mind travelling a short distance to ensure a good job.

These guys: http://www.speedyswheels.co.uk/branches/derby-london-road

100% recommend them, got a full set of alloys refurbed & powder coated few months ago and turned out brilliant. They have two shops in Derby:

1102-1104 London Road
Derby
Derbyshire
DE24 8QE
01332 756 116

and

62 Babington Lane
Derby
Derbyshire
DE1 1SX
01332 295 111

Rough idea on cost?

The wheels I'm wanting done are only 14" but I'll want them completely redoing.

Nathy, you got them refurbished, not refurbed.

Sorry, but that Internet word drives me insane

Are there any 'the wheel specialist' franchises up there? They seem to get a good rep, but obviously being a franchise, quality and service can vary from one to another.

£220 and a weeks wait for a set of 15" Wheels in basic White seems both a bit steep & slow to me...

Does seem a bit slow but cost varies so much it's hard to judge whether that's expensive or not without seeing the quality of the finish. Plus we don't know whether they were properly blasted beforehand, acid dipped etc.

Any/most of The Wheel Specialist franchises do the 1 day turnaround.

I bet they don't charge £120 for a full refurb in that time though, their local Franchise quoted me 3x that to do mine, and that was a 'Special Offer' price apparently...

That Speedys place seemed like a bit of a bunch of pikeys to be honest lol.

Just driven round a few places for quotes. Because of the current state of the wheels they will have to be powdercoated as opposed to wet painted. This means two colours won't really be possible, therefore a nice silver it'll have to be. Got a quote from one place of £200 for all 4 plus an extra £50 if I then want an additional silver wet coat and lacquer to make them extra glossy.

2 colours is possible with powder.

all it means is they'll have to powder coat the first coat then wet spray the second

What IVI said - a good Refurb place will take that 2 Colour job on without fuss.

Place I've just had mine done do 2 Colour very regularly it seems, they paint for Diamond Cut effect finishes, and they look quite good really.

Couple of places I spoke to were reluctant due to the slight ridge you'd get between the two colours. They both said it would eventually lead to damage in those areas.

There's The Wheel Specialist at Nottm & Burton on Trent.

I used the Nottm one in 2009 for the 17" Focus alloys (£235)

Last year they wanted over £300 for my 17"s to be done in orange.

I ended up going to Total Wheel sin Colwick Nottm
http://totalwheelworks.co.uk/
Powder coated... and done in RAL2009 orange £200+vat (£240)

BTW.. I think Speedwheels sub contract the work out, don't they?

It seemed like Speedyswheels did it in shop.

Anyway, I went with Derby Alloys. Small independent place that seem to have a good reputation. Really friendly staff, they're allowing me to order my own tyres and get them delivered to their place as well. Can't comment on the quality of the work yet, but so far their customer service has been spot on.

Should be getting the wheels back early next week
