I assume block the exhaust, the pressure will build up and the weakest bit of the system will break. Or loosen.

Wrap it round the exhaust pull it tight and then just move it left to right the little "discs" in the chain cut through the pipe..... Eventually

You adjust the chain to fit snugly on the pipe where you need to cut, then rotate it back and forth whilst tightening the adjuster as you go Dee.

The little wheels are very hard material and sharp with it. Mild steel doesn't put up much of a fight.

Much neater than a grinder and you can get one in places where you can't fit a grinder. Usually quicker too, in my experience.

Less chance of getting nasty stuff in your eyes also.

I had a look on eBay after asking and came to the conclusion that's how it works.
Ordered myself a cheap one to leave it the toolbox as I'm sure they're handy.

I always used a reciprocating saw when the grinder wou don't fit but I do look a twat in safety specs tho. Hopefully this will cure the problem

Just an exhaust specific chain type pipe cutter Gen.

Got mine off the Snap-On man. Wasn't cheap, but i've had it over ten years now and it still works as well as it did the day I bought it.

One in Jim's pic looks a bit fancier.

I thought it was just to hold the tube so you can wobble it off yourself at first. That would also be useful if you want to retain the box.

That should do it Ian

As long as the discs are as hard as f*ck and good n sharp.

That first one seems very overpriced and without the adjuster it won't cut the mustard, never mind the exhaust

If you're gonna get one it must have the 'mole-grip' type set up so you can clamp it on tight and it will stay on.
And it MUST have the adjuster so you can increase the pressure as you go, to maintain your cut.

That first one would need Jón Páll Sigmarsson hanging off it to get anywhere. And he'd have had to have had his Weetabix that day.

And then it would probably break after one use

Mine was dear but i've only ever had to buy it once and it's never required a repair or replacement.

It was invaluable at a vw franchise, owing to the style of OE exhaust setup and connections they use.
