Car was serviced around 4k ago. Car has done around 30k and on a 60 plate. 1.4 8v petrol.
Had some sort of rattle when moving off so flipped the bonnet to find this.
I've flushed the system out with a hose pipe and replaced coolant.
Ideas why there is sludge all in there?

Head Gaskets covered under warranty? Just found paperwork to show it's got warranty until December 2015

Is there any water in the oil I.e gunk under the oil cap

No mate, no water in the oil. Has used some oil though, was in between the min and max mark. Topped up whilst doing the flush.

Might not be water in the oil but there's certainly oil in the water look at the shit in the header tank

I've been doing some research. Appears it's a common problem on modern Citroen and Pugs.
Looking at £500 to sort out but it's very likely to happen again in the next 20k - 30k.
I need to speak with the dealer and find out if they will sort free of charge and if not trade it back in.
This has just come at a bad time with the baby due end of next month and me taking on more and more work. It's something else i have to sort out!

Unless it was serviced at a main dealer where they can trace the actual 'part'number of the oil and fluids used at each service, they will try and wangle out of it and pass the costs of their investigation to you. Setting fire to it is about the least painful outcome, imo. My family car is a complete POS, not running right, sounding shit but despite being serviced in line with the dealer's recommended interval, because it was done at my local garage (VAT approved, book stamped) I am unlikely to have a case.

I spoke with the dealer today who have agreed to repair under warranty.
I need to arrange use of another vehicle for a few days while it's repaired as the warranty won't cover this.
I keep saying i'll put another car on the road as a spare but never get around to it. It will litrally cost me £15 a year MOT and what ever the tax band it is in using my current insurance.
We do some IT for a garage in Manchester who also repaired my Focus recently when it got rear ended. A trained Peugeot technician there has confirmed it's early signs of the head gasket going.
