I think you can get your speedo recalibrated, not sure who would do that though?

thats is very very odd...........i think u have a prob some where. I have 16"s in on my corsa B......and when the speedo shows 60, i am doin 57. At 70, actually doin 66.
Thats tested with VERY expensive GPS equipment along a dead straight roman road!

Sounds like your Speedometer is way out Mattyb.
With bigger wheels, the axle will turn fewer times to cover the same distance, so the speedometer will think the car is going slower.

its usually the other way around, 60 on your speed will be about 63mph

When I had 16's on mine, the profile was 195/45/16, the height of the tyres were very nearly the same, the 14's previously being 185/60/14's.
I now have 15's on 195/45's, and these are the identical same height as the 14's.
I used a tyre calculator or something I found through this website, worked out that my speedo would be something like .75% out at 70mph...
which to me is naff all

If you're using the correct size tyres (profile) then the total rolling radius of your 16"s + tyre is barely different from a standard 14" + tyre, yes the speedo will be out but only by a few MPH and not 10MPH as you say - unless you're using high profile tyres on bigger wheels in which case the total rolling radius of them will be far bigger than what the standard wheels and tyres would be.

Yeah, but he was doing 63, the fact the speedo is wrong has nothing to do with what he was clocked doing. They don't look in your car and check your speedo, they bounce radar off your bumper and make their own decisions.

This assumes that your speedo is exactly accurate, which is very, very, very unlikely.
By law speedo can over-read by up to 10% but CANNOT under-read, so if anything a bigger set of wheels usually makes your speedo more accurate than factory due to the over-read margin.
The difference between a 145/80/13 and a 195/45/16 is 3.56%
The difference between a 145/80/13 and a 195/40/16 is 0% - they both have a mathmatical diameter of 562mm.
To get a tyre 15% bigger you either have the only Corsa in the country which came with 11" steelies or your tyre choice is VERY wrong.
Either way, borrow a TomTom, Road Angel or buy one of these for your laptop - http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod519.html - and get out there and check it.

he broke the law but he wouldnt have got fined
as far as i know ur allowed to do
10% over the speed limit which makes it 55
so he would not of got fined if his speedo was right
