does anyone know visual basic code so that a text box you can only enetr a string in the format of a postcode?
I have a visual basic user from with address details that goes into a database and want it so that only a postcode format can be entered.

You could cheat and just limit the number of characters entered in the text box or whatever to 7?

already limited the number on the box BUT my project supervisor has said he wants full validation etc. not sure if there is any way to do it but i know you can in access.

I havent done it for a while but isnt there a validation field in the Properties box for the text field? Like how you can set validation in Access, etc

It's been years since I done any VB coding. You can validate string input though, that I am definately sure of.

there is a mask edit control which you could use. I used it for entering national insurance numbers. Basically you drag it on the form like a text box then set the mask for the NI number i did this ??-##-##-##-? this means you can enter JP-91-36-D etc.
So for the postcode you would enter ??###??
That will work and its a lot easier than all the code above

The component is called Microsoft Masked edit control.
Add that and its pis5 easy mate
