a few mates of mine are well into it. They know a lot of the lads that compete in nationals and things like that.
Not massively knowlagable myself but I know that 99.9% of what I thought about drifting was wrong.
Drifting is all about grip

I've done it a fair bit before. An E36/E46 2.5 or 2.8 will do the job. If you get the 2.8, you can get the inlet off the 2.5s which will give you more power. Change the rear diff to something in the 3.something, the higher the better and just get it welded. eBay coilovers will do the job lowering and stiffening it up and then just get some modified front knuckles for awesome angle, they saved me many times before. I have a mate who makes them who is very popular in the drifting scene. I had a well spec'd E36 2.8 coupe which I had built for less than a £1k.

Mx5.
Not overly powerful but cheap to buy and go sideways for fun.
We have Driftland along the road. It's mostly E36/46's.

Lad off here who used to have the Time Attack Corsa B is now in to it, from what I've seen in Instagram he's pretty fucking good too.

MX5 are good ... Mk1 use the same engine as the 323f but with the turbo removed. Mazda too lazy to change the internals so prime to strap a turbo to it and away you go

Mx5's arnt that good for sliding. There way to snappy. Need something longer if you want to drift properly.
As p1ck4d said, old e36 would do you grand.
Or if you've got money to spare, get a 200sx

In my very limited drifting (read hitting kerb) experience, the MX5 is much more difficult to hang out to dry than a 2.8 E36

Why not do a designated drift day and use the M5? They are straight forward and Monika risk as its low speed.
