Today is the 31st and a guys meant to be coming for my vxr but said he wants me to keep tax on it till tommorow so he doesn't loose a month.
I said that's fine as long as I'm not loosing a months worth of tax.
Dunno how it works though I pay it monthly by direct debit, so today being the 31st am I upto date or if I let it roll over till tommorow am I going to be paying for another month at his benefit?
If it wasn't £500 a year at nearly £50 a month I wouldn't be as bothered.
Any one know so I can let him know?

Well it will be taxed until DVLA know, so I assume by time they get the paperwork another month would have started, so you'll be charged.
I think that's right, you can't really take it off any sooner AFAIK.
Maybe give them a call?

I was under the impression the dvla refund or charge for any tax owed etc based on the date on the logbook date of sale/transfer part, so if I put today's date I won't owe anything, if we out tommorows date as he's asking I'll have to pay for that whole month ?

Just spoke to dvla, if I sell it today he has to tax it so he will lose Octobers tax and basically pay a months payment for one day, if I sell it tommorow as he requested then I'll lose out so that isn't happening. Pain in the arse this new system lol.

£50 I'd rather have in my bank than give to the dvla for the sake of some guy I don't know from Adam to benefit from.

Yeah but to lose a sale of several thousand pounds for £50 just seems a bit silly, imho. Even at £1000 i would be ok knocking £50 off to keep the sale going through.

I get what you mean, and I would do the same with other cars Iv sold in the past, in this case I still like the car Iv put it for sale to see what I get offered I turned down loads of offers I probably would of accepted if I needed to / wanted to sell it. I will sell it for the right money but it's not for sale because I need it to be, so if he can't stump up £50 for tax then don't buy the car off me it's fine I'll happily keep it. I had to tax it and loose out when I bought it.

BTW anyone saying they're happy to throw away 50 quid is a fucking lunatic.
Tom - if the current tax goes past midnight you're paying for November.
I'd do the paperwork this weekend and leave it on the path, then when he's been the PO he can drive it home Monday.

£50 would keep you in jogger bottoms for the rest of your life I guess. I'm just not that arsed about probably 1% less money for the sale of a car. I'm sorry times are that tough for you.

Actually, scrap that just seen you are. In that case, check your bank as it's more than likely £50 down as it's probably already been processed with the 1st being a Sunday. If it's not, then cancel the direct debit through online banking, the car will be untaxed from today, and you won't have to pay the £50. Tell him to come tomorrow then he can tax it himself and everyone's a winner.

This just reminded me actually I need to cancel mine lol. Sold my mate my Saab and part of the deal was seeing as I had already paid Octobers tax, let it run to the end of the month then cancel the direct debit. Checked my bank and it's not been taken out nor is it waiting to come out so if I were you I'd cancel the direct debit now which cancels the tax.

All sorted he's bought the car and it's gone, as long as I cancel the tax online before 12 tonight I won't pay for November and if a payment is taken it will be refunded automatically, he's gonna text me when he's home then I'm gonna cancel it online and he can tax it in the morning job done.

Yeah mate I debating taxing the car for him for a whole year £500 is nothing to me I'd happily throw it away but I thought nahhhhh I'll put it towards the m5/rs4 avant that I'm not going to buy after Iv bought my house on the industrial estate.
