My boss is considering putting an Impreza lump into his Porsche Boxster S race car but we have been discussing how the wiring and ECU side of things will work.
Ideally he would like to keep the original dash working, along with using the normal key, windows, lights, ABS, etc - basically anything non-engine related which runs off the ECU but be able to run the Impreza engine with boost control, etc.
Any thoughts/ideas on the best way of tackling it?

Out of curiosity, what does an Impreza offer over/above the Porsche offerings?

Far far cheaper, and easier to get power out of it.
Boxster engine is 4k, you can buy whole imprezas for less.

Gearbox wise you can buy a kit for the scoob box so you can mount it back wards and you get a new pinion etc for the front diff so the shafts run the right way, and you cut off the tail section and blank it off.
It's what alot of beetle and bus guys do when converting it and wanting a cheaper gearbox to run power through.
Link/aem and many other ecu all have the canbus compatability now a days so keeping the dash working is pretty easy.

Why is putting a cheaper, more powerful and more readily available engine in a stupid idea?

Turbocharged 4cyl,
More power or not, totally different characteristics for a car famed for its chassis balance and drivability.
I get why he wants more power, just seems an odd thing to do
