So then i plan on starting my Corsa XE up after leaving untouched for 5months over the winter and was wondering if there is anything i need to do or check before putting a new battery on and turning it over?

turn the crank a few times with a spanner if you can get access

Pull the spark plug leads and turn the engine without it starting to circulate a little oil round the lifters, cam etc.

unplug the kinglead if its a dizzy, if not unplug the dis pack and crank it over.

Once they crank over as above it should be ok. Also don't Rev the tits off it straight away when it does fire.

Surely 5 months is nothing.
I started a Puma after 4 months, didn't even have to charge the battery.

Now in dry storage until the summer of 2017.

No harm in pulling a lead and cranking the oil round a little bit, I would.

I think i would prefer to do that too as i had a quick look earlier through the oil cap and the cams feel quite dry.

Same here. I've left cars for months and always just started them up without checking. Usually the battery needs charging but other than that they'll start no problems. If there's a problem I'll then look at it

My Astra Coupe gets laid up for way longer than that. I left it for 2 years and it just started right up and drove to the MOT station. It was in a dry garage however, presume yours is too?
