can an employer legally demote you resulting in a £100 a week pay cut?

Not unless they have good reason too, id suspect they could only do it if u were shite or had bad time keepin etc etc.

i know u can be demoted but i didnt think they could cut ure pay too. especially if its called company restructuring

if the demotion means less responsibility, etc they can change your salary to match!

but is that legal i mean companies could do it all the time if so to save on salaries....for example if someone is on maternity leave and they return to work the company doesnt have to keep their job open but they are legally obliged to offer a job but the money has to stay the same...hence demotion but same pay

i think its something to do with the fact it can affect you as a person if your money goes down,or something like that anyway

well then that would make firing someone impossible, as you would be making their money go down??!!

As long as they can back it up with the fact that you've less responsibilities, not in charge of anyone or certain task, etc. then they can pay you less!

I had a friend who was demoted and stayed on the same money? I didn't think they were allowed to reduce your sallery once you are on a certain ammount????

they will have to offer you a different contact, so they are perfectly able to offer you a different amount. Basically its a different job now so pay you according to that job!

they cant reduce your salary its against the law they can demote you but the only way they can gice you a pay cut is if you take it volountarily(cant remember how to spell taht word)

should i would seek professional advice we had a bloke who had the choice demotion or redundancy basically if he said demotion it would of been me out of a job and he said if i stay i will look for another job anyway so he thought they would keep him on because they didnt want to lose him he was a very good salesman you see but they made him redundant and i got to keep my job but he would of been on the same pay as the job he had before just not doing that job because they couldnt do that by law
