Just recieved this e-mail confirming my order, this paragraph worries me.
Your AOL Broadband Membership
AOL Broadband has a monthly subscription fee of £27.99 for a minimum of 12 months, after which you will pay for AOL Broadband on a monthly basis. Please note that if you access AOL through our narrowband network (i.e. via a standard dial-up telephone connection), then you will have to pay per minute local rate call charges once your price plan has been changed to AOL Broadband. This will happen when we send you your Easy-Install pack.
Once your AOL Broadband Easy-Install pack has been sent you will then be billed £27.99 via your existing AOL account on your next billing cycle date. Although you are not required to pay in advance to receive AOL Broadband, it is possible that your first billing date will be before you start receiving the service. In order to ensure prompt processing of your AOL Broadband order, please take a moment now to check we have your most up to date contact and billing details.
Does that mean I have to pay the £27 a month then a per minute charge as well?

I'm on Nildram 512kbps DSL, the only restriction is a 150Gb/month download-cap, which to be honest I'd be hard-pushed to break through...
Have been on ADSL Guide for a while now, since before I got BB, and reading through AOL's forums, they're absolutely useless for online-gaming, as the ping-responses jump up and down.
And, just for future reference, if you ever come to leave AOL, prepare to have to format your machine, as that software does not uninstall properly (and that's from experience of having to advise customers in work migrating to us to have to do it, because I've spent 30 minutes going through everything to try to remove it).

In response 2 ye dan:
1.Nildram kicks ass. Ive been on a mates with 512k 50:1 and its wicked. Was number 1 i think in the fastest providers. Cos im on a business line im gettin the 512k 20:1 service at £32 a month.
2. AOL is totally wank for gaming as you say, cos the program keeps on downloading news info ect and is just shit for speed. A lot of programs also conflict with AOL's software.
3. AOL isnt really that hard to remove. The hardest bit to remove is the WAN miniport that AOL creates. Even tho you can remove it in the device manager (on some occasions lol) it is still there and active.
You need to zoom thru the registry and delete any registry keys relating to AOL or miniport (using search). Then i found a website that told me the driver files for the aol adapters so i searched for each one, found them, then deleted them. Then AOL is no more
