a mate of my bro's mate's has a 205 gti

in 3rd gear or 4th "above 30mph"

it makes a whining\rubbing noise on lift of or steady speed coming from the centre of the dash \ engine bay

has anyone owned a gti and had this and what was it??

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese help as my bro's mate is about to pull it apart looking for what it is??
