I have got JL front speakers + tweeters and Infinity 6x9's in the back of my Corsa C all run from the Standard SXi CD head unit.
If I have my tunes pumping quite loud for a while I get a crackle and they all cut out!! Is this coz my HU is shite and cant power my speakers that loud or could it be something else???

Its probably cos ur existing headunit cant handle it, they dont have a proper amp inside them. If it crackles then cuts out, its probably the headunit's amp protection or thermal overload kicking in.
New headunit my son.

Any normal person would get a proper HU before spending $$$ on comp's and 6x9's...
not only will you destroy the Standard unit but you could kill your nice new speakers as well...
do the sensible thing and get a proper HU...

the amp in the head unit is nowhere near powerful enough,it will fry the speaker coils if im right it will try sending square waves which the speakers cannot reproduce and so they disipate it as heat, hence the coils fry.

yer rated power for the speakers is probably higher than the RMS output of the head unit - i.e. the speakers may well be 40 maybe 50w rated power - the standard head unit puts out about 4x30watts - damage to the head unit is quite possible if u turn it up loud for long periods of time.
