my car is f*cked it will sit at 4000 rpm with out my foot on the throtle the ecu light came on. the boyz at the garage think its the idle control valve anyone else had this problem?

mates clio did this, 2 minutes later the water pump burst.

What engine is it?
Disconnect the throttle position sensor, mine was doing this and it dropped back to normal. I traced the wire back and I think it was shorting, sorted that, reconnected wire to TPS and all is now fine.
