Yes, but Parkers mean it handles well in terms of a granny pottering down to Tesco. EVO on the other hand mean it handles shite when being properly driven.

no - evo test it as a sports car, which its not. If you are happy reading one review and basinc you judgement on it then thats up to you, you say you own a 206 - so do i. From my experience and the things ive read about them they handle very well. As i said - im not going to argue anymore because there's no point.

They are very reliable as they don't use manufacturers figures. They time them themselves under normal conditions on the day of the test.
only the figures in italic are Evo Road tests, the rest are manufacturer book times

well we have just this sec come back from the vauxhall garage, she fell in love with a red 1.4SRI (16" alloys, alloy interior, aircon cdplayer) should be enough gadets for her. knocked em down to £7250 thats a 52 plate and mint inside and out.

well a new SRi 1.4 is £10500 this one we got was 8 months old and £3250 cheaper!!!
The insurance is spot on for her and she wasnt looking for a fast car, just somthing that was well specced/looked good and had some gadets inside.
TBH i think thats a good price as i paid same amount for my corsa 10 moinths ago and got a hell of alot less (no aircon/smaller alloys/ smaller engine)
agreed theres alot better cars but not really in the same insurance bracat or that would of met her requirements.

Seems like a good deal to me, I paid £7200 for me 1.2 16v SXI new, you're getting a nearly new SRI for pretty much the same price!

its actuall the figures in bold that evo have tested themselves and the 106 gti 7.4 0-60 was tested by them

I have yet to see a standard or near standard GTi/VTS do a 0-60 of under 8 seconds.
When I was at Donny on Sunday, three VTS's were running at times of around 8.10-8.80 pretty much the same as Punto GT's.
I did see a MODDED VTS do 0-60 in 7.77 though with 17's.

And at the Saxo Vs Corsa day a near standard VTS done a run of 8.8 which was only 3 tenths of a second faster than my GSi.
I do not believe the GTi/VTS will do it any quicker than 8.0 seconds as standard.

I do not believe EVO at all, they talk shit.
And if they DID get those times you have to remember they are being driven by EXPERT drivers who know how to launch properly.
TBH none of us can launch properly, so a 0-60 of over 8.0 seconds for a VTS/GTi is actually more realistic for Mr Average.
I mean, I got beaten off the lights by a S2 106 Rallye PMSL
Did I look a cunt or what

Seat - Ibiza [basic model goin for £189 deposit plus £189/month] [made by VW in spain]
VW - Polo [Goin for a few quid more than the above]
Renault - Clio Billabong [£199 deposit, £189/month, this car comes with some nice extra's ]
Ford Fiesta - From £189/month again...
Nissan Micra, from £159/month...
Renault Megane II - From £199/month.

If i was you id go for the VW/Seat purely for quality.

My little 1.2 pisses on most other small hatches we tried and the build quality is as good as the best of em, in terms of performance my 1.2 easily FELT (im not saying it was) quicker then all but the biggest engines hatches.
Could anyone please help us out what hatch (not Hot hatch) should she be looking for?
and before u say tell her to get a corsa, she doesnt like the look of em and insurance is an issue shes looking for somthing with a years free!
I'd say the new Fiesta Ghia. That's what i was after but couldn't afford one so had to do with a Peugeot 106.
