After having a quick search, i believe that it should be a straight swop, but the ratios on the gearbox are slightly different @ lower end...
Just want someone to confirm all this for me
It's a C16XE that i'm planning on btw...
I have a 1993 K REG @ the moment

Right, just been to a bloke to ask about this Conversion...
He's saying i need like hopper has said, the Engine, loom, ECU etc..etc...
The engine i'm hopefully sourcing by itself, for a decent price... where could i get the ECU and anything else from, and what sort of price am i looking at ?
On another note... would i be better going for 2.0 8v ?
Thanks for any help
Oh, he's also saying the Gearbox would probably need changing too

if your buyin a engine seperate from the loom etc you have be careful cuz a ecu from another car may not match, your best gettin everyfin from 1 car. cavey wot reg is your car, how long you had it.

I've got a couple of questions, cos my 16s have made my car so slow i need a bigger engine!
1) If i bought an engine, how do i pick it up and take it to the people doing the conversion? will it fit in my boot etc?
2) Does the engine loom plug into the car loom? where abouts? is it complicated and do the wires have to be run everywhere or is it a plug and play job?

Mav, yes it will fit in the boot, you'll need two people to lift it in and out though.
Sorry, can't comment on the loom.

If you can carry passengers in the rear with no problems, then you should be ok with an engine and box I would think.

Your car will ahve an F13 gearbox. GSi's come witha n F15 gearbox. But, you should be able to fit your current gearbox with no problems. Should just about hit the rev limiter in 5th as well (117mph).
ECU, u may need the chip in the key as well. Im nto 100% sure, but ry re-postnig this on Mig as they usually know there gibbons!

His gearbox may be an F10. The only pre-1995 gearboxes above the F10 were the F13 for an SRi and the F15 for the GSi. The F10 gearbox is not suitable for the C16XE engine, but an F13 gearbox will be just fine. In fact, the F13 gearbox was used for GSi's after 1995.

Yeah, it's driving all right, started ticking though, and it's pissing me off ! And i want a bit more power/less mileage on it...
Not really done anything to it, i've added a go fast dent along the Passenger side, reckon it adds at least 10BHP
Done the ICE up a bit, that Kenny HU died, got a sony one and a few JBL bits in the boot.
ANYWAY... So you reckon it should be fine with the gearbox that's already in it ? Also, could i get an ECU from a different 1.6 16v ? would that work or not, at the moment, think it's just the engine that i'm looking at, although i have asked him if he could source the ECU, Loom etc..etc.. as well, fingers crossed

cavey as for the spec of your car when you brought it off me
standard engine with drilled air box, cat back mongoose stainless exhaust, lowered 40mm but they were nova springs, 2ltr 16v front brakes with mintex discs and vauxhall pads, elec sunroof from a 1989 carlton cdx, electric windows out of 1998 corsa sport.
i would try and get everyfin from the same car regardin the engine you want cuz with everyfin been electric controlled sometimes the ecu needs reprograming and thats a pain.
as for the lifters been noisy they were new at 100k
