what do you mean by a led number plate?? you mean leds in the number plate light on the back to light it in a different colour?? or a surround like the neon surrounds you can get?? or a number plate made of leds so the letters light up??

yep, think before you get anywhere with this one mate you will have to put up a picture off a prototype. as folks have nothing to compare it with !! have you actual seen something that inspired you to the idea ??
sure if you go ahead with your plan there may be a bit more off an interest in your idea .
good luck, keep us posted.

If you want leds, I could sort you out. If your thinking of putting white leds in a rear plate though, expect to get pulled big time

No, I don't get them from work or anything but I've sold one or two on here. What sort of quantities and colours are you thinking of? I assume your going to be using something like a 3v resistor, in which case you'll need resistors too for 12v use. You can get 12v leds, but they are more expensive and don't illuminate so well.

erm not legal for use springs to mind, or you could do it properly and do it the way I made these plates about 5 years ago!!!
by using an edgelighting system you could illuminate a plate and there is no visible light to ruin the lines of the rear of the car.
or do it rpoperly as my bikes had and use a transmissive LCD this way with the right equipment its possible to have the LCD display your legal reg, in the legal font and a not so legal font, and then at the flick of a switch it changes to something else, ie a nice little logo or phrase, I then mounted an EL panel behind this, the EL was orange when unlit and lit up white, or can use a white looking one that illumiates blue, this was the one that really got me attention at shows etc..
white LEDs, looking for about 7000mcd ideally, could wire them in series ie 4off and that way less parts ie resistors etc required or just work out the current etc and use one dropper. these will be rather a narrow viewing angle, but thay are very bright, I use them as head lights in model cars, and in my warehouse at night can put a large circle of light on the wall 20+ metres away
