anyone know about shaving a few mm off the back of the face plate, to get the offset down? Recon it would work? I know it would mean less tread for the bolts but Im only taking a few mm

No, spacers will lessen the offset making them stick out more, the only way to get a higher offset is by having the drums/disks milled, and maybe the same with the surface of the wheel that is going against them

Shaving metal from the bolt face would get the offset up

Don't know of anywhere local though

Can be done, depends how much you want to budge, just be carefull and dont go too far. Probably best taking it off the disk on the front, as its just sandwiched between wheel and hub. Although in saying that will it still line up with the caliper?

think 3mm is the limit for safety on bolt face shaving, otherwise you will weaken wheel

It'll probabaly work out a lot easier and prob the same price to sell the rims (cut your losses) and go buy some new that will fit correctly.
