yes you can.... start, control panel, add/remove programs, add/remove windows components then untick internet explorer

that dont uninstall it matey, just gets rid of the start buttons etc

IE6 is heavily integrated with XP... its a complete bitch to remove it, and to install IE5 on an OS which isn't supported, just gona give you grief
stick with IE6, or just use Mozilla or Opera, etc...
