Yes this is a simulator where you simulate flying around the world in extreme detail.

Whats this game like for novices to flight simulators? I've always fancied buying this but it's always looked a bit complicated to me

It has a fantastic tutorial system that uses a combination of videos, speech and flight instructors to teach you everything you need to know to get off the ground. Well worth it.
