Just looking for a bit of back up really, i sold my corsa last monday, through the auto-trader. There was a few things wrong with it, such as the steering column was in need to be replaced, and bodywork needed touching up, which WAS stated in the advert.
The lad i sold it to offered £1400 cash as asking price was £1900 - so i glady accepted as i wanted to get rid.
He looked around the car, with his mate that seemed to know about steering columns and mecanical things etc. Went on a test drive - he said he wasnt bothered about the column as he had the money ready to touch it up. The car was drivable but column needed replacing as he knew.
SOLD.
One week later exactly i get a phone car off his mother saying she was angry cos the steering column gave way as he went to pull out of his drive, and want a full £95 out of me for the breakdown recovery!
Is that to do with me as he bought the car knowing it needed looking at?
Any advice??

you should be ok mate, i can't see him taking you to court or anything for 95 quid and in any case u should be fine as long as you told him

Did you do a 'sold as seen' document? If so he can't do jack shit

I had some sort of problem- sold a Ax Gt to two lads and was more than happy to take what they offered- they had plenty of time to look at it and never wanted to test drive it.
Anyway next day they turned up wanting money back. Told them to go do one so they left car over my drive.
After LOTS of abusive phone calls and police involvement they got message.
People just take piss sometimes!

U take your chances and thats it...
don't have to put sold as seen or anything.....he buys it there and then and had plenty time to test drive etc..It's his tuff shite..they just chancing there arm that u are a soft touch..

Just this morning recieved the invoice, wanting £111.00 or legal action is going to be taken! Hes angry cos he had his bro and sis in the car!

Private sellers
It is very important to realise that you do not have the same legal rights when you buy privately. When buying from a private individual (not a commercial trader) you have fewer legal rights. Goods only have to be as described and do not have to be of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose.
When buying privately the main rule is known as 'caveat emptor'. This means 'buyer beware' and you should take note of this. For example, it is not an implied term of a purchase when buying a car that it is free from defects or even that it has an engine at all, provided that it was not described as such. A seller cannot mislead you, but you take the goods as they appear and there are no guarantees.
It is very important, therefore, when buying privately that you thoroughly examine the goods. It may be helpful to take someone along with you, for example, someone who knows about cars when buying one etc. If you get an item home and it does not work properly or collapses you will not have any legal rights to rely on. The exceptions to this are where the defects were not apparent on examination, where the seller misrepresents that the goods are fit for a particular purpose, or where defective goods cause injury or damage to property worth £275 or more. In these situations, you may return the goods and/or sue for compensation.

U still got the advert? If so, keep it with you, and if goes to a court of law all you will need to do is say it was stated on the advert.
Dont worry, they are trying to pull a fast one. They took the car on a test drive and accepted the car how it was. There is no fault of yours.
Let them take you to court, they will waste even more money then

nah mate let em try legal action and just leave them out of pocket. If it was stated in the advert in auto trader then they CANNOT in any way try and claim from you.

Tell them you are more than happy to have the car fixed but you will then require the full £1900 for the car.

I havnt got it on paper but my dad is guna ring auto trader for a copy of the mag and the internet advert!
so do i need to worry?
