Hi people,
I've got a 1.4 16V Corsa Sport (B shape).

Anyways I have 15" Wolfrace Alloys with an et45 offset (195/45/16).

I want 16" Speedline Allesios with et49 offset (195/45/16).

Will acceleration be much slower? Very noticeable? My mate reckons his was loads slower?

Thanks!

Also if anybody is sellin any, preferably in anthracite but anything condsidered, cash is waiting!

Naaa not really mate.What you lose in speed you will gain in traction as long as you have good tyres.

If you get the right profile tyre the overall size will be the same.

For what you get in grip its worth the tiny sacrifice. Personally i havent noticed any difference.

i use 205/45/15 stealies acc much better, but atm id prefer traction

mine was noticable slower going from 13's to 16's but not going up from 15's. at the end of the day i had no straight line grip with 13's and these are brillaint.

I've raced a Sport with those exact wheels many a time at crail and every time i have walked away. He had a full system, decat, pipercross and mine was standard on my 15's

Sorry, have to disagree. Not only will 16s be heavier, but the bulk of the mass is situated in the rim, ie further from the centre. The energy required to accelerate that mass goes up as the square of the radius. Even if the weight of the 16 was the same, you'd need an extra 14% more energy to accelerate it. On a relatively powerful and heavy car, this extra would be hardly noticeable. But you may well notice the difference on your, particularly if the 16s are heavier anyway. Also most peeps on here will tell you that 15s are best for handling too, so personally I'd be reluctant to change the rims.

u'll lose a hell of a lot of acceleration going from 13" steelies to 16" alloys!

Even the rolling radius may be the same as ur previous wheels, the weight of the alloys are gonna slow the accerlation down!

its painfully slow for me, i've only got 60bhp as well!

might put the steelies back on for the winter.

Weight is the key. I had 17"s and the grip on them compared to 14"s was amazing. The steering (PAS) on mine was greatly improved as it gave the steering feel! As its too light as standard.

Its all down to prefference what u use your car for etc etc etc, just find whats right for you!

I have 16" Speedlines Allesio 2's with 195/45 Fulda tyres I noticed the difference in acceleration going from standard 13" steelies and even from standard 14" alloys.
But it wasn't much and it makes for it with added grip (with the right tyres)

I went from steelies to 16" MM Evo's and had a noticeable difference, you get use to it and as I am driving a 12v Im not looking to have keep/use power anyway.

Yeah u get used to it then when u put ur stellies back on over Winter ur car feels so fast again, even 12v's and 1.2's

Went from 15" with a 195/45/15 to a 16" with 195/45/16. Acceleration dropped bloody loads, didn't handle as well (just lowered springs), and top speed on the speedo dropped quite a bit. With my current tyres on the 1.4 16v engine, it was flat out at 110-112mph which is pretty accurate.

Weight, bigger wheels, had low profiles on my 15"s.

15"s are superb for corsa handling.

15s are better for the car but 17s look better... up 2 you mate... I'ld go no bigger than 17s tho...

Thing is its not a fast car to begin with so i'ld stick with style

17's actually made my astra quicker

If that's possible on a 90 bhp motor like,must be the size of the car

Bigger rims with a bigger rolling radius will give u a higher speed in any given gear. But it will take longer to get there cos of the acceleration effects described earlier

Andy, dont dforget, its only 90bhp, not 214bhp With only 90bhp, top speed isn't really an issue

It's not really an issue for me anymore now I have the quaife box in - limited to 124mph at 9000rpm

and u only get increased grip in the dry, its vice versa in the wet!!!

big wheels suk anyhows! small chunky numbers are what you want!!
