right iv just got back from uni and i aint used my car in just over a month.
thing is, last time i used it, wen i used the breaks, the car juddered very badly, especially wen breaking hard!
as i didnt have time to do anything about it, all i did was checked the front disks and pads (which have done about 10k miles since i last change them) and they seamed fine!
since buying my car i have done about 20k miles and have never changed the rear shoes in the drums.
so am i right in assuming that i will need to replace the shoes? or do u think it may be sumic else causin the juddering?
is it hard to change the shoes? (i have a haynes manual somewhere, will av to dig it out! )
also when changing the shoes, does the breaking fluid need bleeding?
cheers,
james

no they are not! i checked the discs and pads and they are fine...the pads are still thick enough, and the disks are worn evenly (still plently of life in them as with the pads) , not worped at all.

no, it wont be the rear drums.
take the discs off and stick them on a flat surface, i had discs which warped after about 1000 miles, all you need to do is some hard braking and thats enough to do it, i had brakes from a sri at the time.

erm, actually from from memory i think so...
wen u say lip, do u mean as in where the pads av worn away the face of the dics, but av left a slight lip at the top, because they dont make contact there.

it will show you if they are warped, cos if they are it will be able to see.
or just turn them round on the hub and measure from a certain point at stage around the discs to see if its out.

it only needs to be a tiny amount to do it.

so if the dics are warped then all i can do is buy new discs?
are you sure it cannot be anything else causing the juddering during breaking?
y do discs warp? how many miles should they last? (under normal conditions)
its a bit annoying as my discs arnt even standard, they are Brembo Maxi discs and they have lots of life left in them!
il av to check 2mo.

I had this problem hey from southend my old stomping ground!!!!
I change my disks for new red dot 20 groove jobbies on my GSI still didnt sort the problem, turned out to be the rubber bushes on the control arms, replaced them both and it aint done it since car feels real tight up front

the control arms are attached at one end to the chassi and at the other to the steering ball joint, the bushes are rubber and control foward and backward motion on these componants, cos its attached to the whole hub assemble if these bushes are worn they cause juddering when braking, is the steering wheel juddering, there might be a very slight movement on the steering wheel during normal driving too, when these bushes have gone and you do brake the car will judder quite severely and wont brake in a straight line.
If ya car isnt doing the above then i would say it will be warped disks like the others said

its actually cheaper to buy the control arms with bushes already fitted in them than fitt the bushes, i think it cost me £80 for both sides fitted, you have to change both sides
