It's not so much the weight as the torque. Engines move about quite a lot, (unless you've only got 150 bhp)

im asking because the 8v chasis and 16v chasis are different
the 8v has engine mounts that sit proud of the chasis but 16v has mounts that sit flush wit the chasis

the 8v has short mounts the 16v has longer mounts
they have the same number of bolts aswell-on the engines anyway

only difference being 8v mounts are steel and 16v are alloy

i dont think you can make 16v mounts fit a 8v chasis

now the nova gsi has 98bhp and 99lbf of torque
the corsa gsi has 109 bhp and 109lbf of tourqe
so i think the mounts may be strong enuff

Dunno if this helps adam, but my car was a 1.2, now with a 1.4 16v, and the mounts are definately made of steel, and I had to buy them from Vaux. cos when I took out the moulten lump of metal that used to be an engine, I forgot to take them off before I lobbed it. If steel ones are 8v, then I can definately say they will withstand a 16v!

yes 8v are steel
16v are alloy

the 8v mounts are part of the car they sit proud of chasis and bolt on differently to the 16v
but all the bolt holes on the engine's line up i think so i should be ok

cheers keith ive just paid for a non p/s gsi engine mount that i 1. dont need and 2. it wont fit

goin back to vaux tommorow me thinks

if they look dodgy ill purchase new 8v mounts and thatll help
as the dampers in the mounts are stiffer

no
16v mounts are different to 8v mounts...

16v mounts are recessed inside the chassis legs also, 8v are on the outside of the leg.

yes this is where its gets trickey ive converted a p/s gsi engine to non p/s

using a 8v alternator bracket, and sri bottom crank pulley and v belt drive belt removed the ribbed belt pulley on the alt and replaed it with a v belt one and removed the p/s pump as its part of the mount

and it works
i sorted that lil mess myself
just these mounts and the vacumm pipe to get clear on and my engine will be fitted

if the xe block has 4 mounting holes & the original mounts have only 3...

may be worth getting a set of mounts made up save all the faffin about? Shouldn't cost too much to do!

I told you that the mounts that you have for the 8v were the same in the first place.

I'm using the Nova mounts for my X16XE as they are fairly new.

how olds your corsa @ what was the old mileage?

96-N, 132k miles was mine, and the rubbers on the drivers side were very weak, looked like they were splitting
