How true.
OK this annoys me. The fact is that the "modified car" scene in general is ****E. Plain and simple. Max power etc is all about making it look visually OTT imo. When I was 13/14 it was all RS turbo's, astra GTE's, cav GSI's an the like. Now it's jap crap, plain and simple. What people in general think is cool Now is NOT cool imo. Cool to me is a cav gsi or astra gte that is subtlety modified.
The reason why you got laughed at is simply that they are Ignorant. The scene now is cack. Early 90's you had gsi's, gte's and they just looked brilliant...now a civic with Lexus lights looks ****e, I can't believe people think stuff like that looks good. IT DOESN'T. Who to blame? I'd say Fast and the Furious has something to do with it...crap movie, crap cars, crap cast.
When I hear people talking about "so and so's bought a pug 106, clio, civic etc etc and done it up so it looks all mint" is ridiculous. The whole "it's up to them" argument doesn't apply here, because these people don't like our cars either.
How can anyone laugh at an astra gte, it was THE boy racer car in its day (AND STILL IS imo).

whats true is no one's ever a happy person, always something to moan about, and these people r the ones who "do it for themselves and don't care about what others think"
people seem desperate for everyone to like the same stuff

tbh i thinks its crap , id rather have my jap crap that has real power than half the stuff produced in europe where they care more about emissions and shit , at least the japs know how to make cars powerfull,
to have a powerfull car the best thing to start with is a powerfull car ,
i know id choose any "jap crap" over a vauxhall anyday without question,
its all down to personal preferances,
i belive the astra GTE is a bag of wank allwaysy has been and allways will be.

I Prefer this
"I think the general opinion about modified cars (externally) is true, but dont forget that some people modifiy their cars for themselves.
i.e, i've spent ***kloads on my car, fully kitted, custom bits, smoothed bits everywhere etc etc. But its taken me 4 years thus far and i've got a lot more to do. I do hope to have it featured one day, but tbh, that isn't a concern, not until its basically done. I also agree that max power, fast car, revs are pathetic, but have a bit more respect for Redline as its still about modified cars and not all about making £££.
But i had a 1.4 16v for ages, then i had the 2.0 fitted. But just because i've modified the outside of the car doesn't make me an idiot.
I know you will all moan, but spending money on the outside of the car is just as pointless as spending shedloads on tuning an engine. End of the day, the legal limit is 70mph, so why do people spend thousands trying to tune them?
Both are pointless, but both are also up to the car owners. Obviously you can tell the "neds" from the car enthusiasts, but think next time before trying to brand everyone who modifys their ar externally."
"Oh, and btw, nope, only had the people who dislike me slag off my car. Everyone else seems to like it and appreciates the time and money i've put into it.
My scoota however, thats a different case lol. People think im usually jsut a 16 year old ned who can't ride on his 50cc scoota. Pug GTi's, saxos, mercs, BMW's etc, well, lets jsut say when the 200cc 4 stroke ped gets opened up, i dont get to see their expressions as they are done by this "little ped""

I'd prefer a Cav GSi or a Calibra over an Astra any day, they really are quite ugly cars

How can an Astra GTE be the ultimate hot hatch? Even in its day it looked arse, had a really nasty interior and suspect handling, and it was slow before they put a proper enigine in it.
Now days its just crap, I wouldn't piss on one if it was on fire.
