is the wiring the same for the 2 lumps? or what neds to be changed? thinking of one from a astra mk4!
also who does mounts to fit one into a corsa b?
its going into a corsa B btw, not into a c! we are doing it on behalf of a mate so want all the info before we start!

MTech do the mounts, I think one of cars has the loom on the other side... but can't be sure.
Maybe I'm just talking crap.

Yes Ecu and Loom are very much the same.
Dont see the point of Ecotec to be honest - 136bhp - Drop an XE in on Tb's and your laughing

No, No, and No.
When you swap an engine you swap the entire unit, including the wiring loom and ECU.

so your saying that if you were to change from a 1.4 to a 1.6 you would swap everything...... I THINK NOT! thats like using a hammer to crack a nut! rule of thumb, if the wiring is the same leave it unless its knackered!

when u can get a basically just run in engine from a reps car thats been totaled for not much more, NEWER engine, less miles and easier to swap if ecu and loom! plus with a little head work your laughing!

brosters 1.6 is 136bhp with 39k on the clock, if he wil allow me to nick it

andy, the 2.0 has more than that as std, with scope to get alot more out of it than a 1.6! plus if as you say that you want to turbo it at some point, then its going to be alot easier to turbo the 2.0 as you can get the forged pistons for the c20let, and im sure you could get these to fit the ecotech producing alot sronger engine to turbo than the 1.6! plus able to run more boost for bigger gains without it going POP!

As a standard fit and forget, the XE has the edge, although most are a bit worn now. But the 2L Ecotec responds very well to a little fettling (ie chucking out all that emissions garbage). And QED tune the Ecotecs to a reliable 245bhp, which demonstrates this engine's potential

You wont be able to use the engine from a MK4 Astra as its has a fly by wire throttle no cable. You may be able to swap inlet manifolds for an older one with a cable throttle

The XE is just a better engine - if your serious about perfromance then go for the XE. 245bhp? Swindon Race engines obtain 290bhp with reverse cylinder heads etc.... The XE responds better to tuning and is generally less complicated to work with if your planning to mod. Thats the point i was trying to make.
If you dont want the 20XE get a 16XE - set of TB's no weight - job done.
but sod that mine is being Turbo'd lmao

it may be a better engine, but finding a none tiered one is near on impossible! you can pick up a 2ltr ecotech with no miles on it for basically same price, and if fitting is alot easier, then job done! so that would save the cost of a rebuild straight off!
both engines would be going in as std, but if the ecotech is alot easier to fit then it would be alot more sensible conversion, plus it would look alot more factory without having wires running every where from modding the loom if they are all in the same places!

Yes Swindon racing can get 290bhp from an XE, but I was talking about real world engines, not those costing upwards of £25,000
Below are the torque curves from QED's top spec 250bhp XE and their top spec 240bhp Ecotec. The XE may have 10bhp more, but the Ecotec has a far superior torque curve and would be faster in real world driving conditions. Don't get me wrong - the XE is a superb engine; my point is that so is the 2L Ecotec

The XE may be a "tried" engine John but look at parts etc... Second hand are cheap aftermarket is cheap and even if the engine has "zero" miles i would still take it apart to ensure that i wouldnt have to take it out again due to an intenal failed component.
The 20XE engine was awesome - a performance orinated engine with rally predigree, the Ecotec is not.
Just my thoughts at the end of the day.
Corsa speaking i would want either a 16XE on Tb's - or Turbo.
I had a Calibra Turbo before my Corsa GSi and once you have Turbo power its very difficult to go back as an all round drive

just a thought but i prob wrong but if u ftted the 2 litre ecotec could u not at a lter stage buy the turbo adn manifold from a z20let and stick it on or is that not the same engine. just a thought,
i can see where he is coming from tho id rather the ecotec cos it looks newer and would b a lot more relaible.
