Hmmmmm...............

www.p1woc.co.uk get on there and have a look around the forum. A few these days do seem to be going pop. I think if you keep them standard your ok, if you do mod them make sure you get a remap!

The main reasons are:

1) Detonation - Inlet charge temps get to high due to TMIC, running lean or due to faulty fuel pump or MAF sensor failure - fuel ignites before piston gets to TDC, either holes piston or spins a shell.
2) Big end failure - Can be a few things that cause this usually oil pump failure or extreme oil temps. 60k mark is where they usually let go.

I think if you keep some mechanical sympathy, keep the oil clean, install a knocklink to make sure its not detting, install oil temp, oil pressure and boost gauges you should be ok. Oh and run it on Optimax!!!

36k isnt a lot of miles!

Personally I'd say go for an Evo unless you are prepared to really look after the P1. To be 100% honest I prefer the look of the P1, the handling, the fact it has 2 doors, its a UK car, lower servicing costs and the noise! Evo's just seem to be a bit stronger........well engine wise anyway!

Luckily Ive got a full warranty as well and ill be keeping it up while I have the P1!

All cars have there little probs mate Jap Cars tend to be just as reilable as say the Germans (BMW/Merc). The prob is people dont tend to by the latter cars to rag the shit out of them, Instead its the poor Japs eg the Impreza/Evo/ and to an extent the Type R and Vtecs of the honda range too. Maybe if the car looks in good nic has history and all the bits and bobs that make it look like a good buy maybe ya should. I know i would love one.

Subaru warrantys are really good, they very rarely argue from what I have heard!

If it comes with a three year warranty (even a 1 year warranty) then I wouldnt worry!

They are on the most part really reliable!!!

If you can be bothered to register on www.p1woc.co.uk then read this thread: http://p1woc.co.uk/postnuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=7364

This guys knows his stuff!!! explains everything that can go wrong with the Subaru engines and gives a step by step way to rebuild the engine. Its a great read even if you arent into Subarus!!!!

Would rather use BP ultimate as it actually has a higher RON rating when compared with Optiplop, which is just cleaner than normal unleaded (but is still 95 ron).

Or you could find out where your nearest Tescos garage which sells 99ron is... yes thats right, tescos just started selling 99ron petrol

Fraid not.........when we got some tested it made 97 Ron! When it was released it was said to be 100 Ron I always use plenty of octane booster anyway, normally takes Optimax to 101 Ron!

But yeah, the Tescos stuff is the daddy!!! Just a shame its onlt certain areas that have it!!!
