Yeh just finished Uni (3 years of debt accrued there)
Then 2 years at Law School (more debt)
But then I work for 2 years at a firm as a trainee (less debt)
Such is life

If you end up with a good firm they pay you a salary and all your fees for anything post Uni. Best mate just got a job with Slaughter and May and gets everything paid for.
however, I hear stories of good people with good grades who pay for college etc themselves and then can't get a job at the end of it.

Yeh the big firms will pay your fees AND give you a nice little figure to "live on" (not quite a salary)
Ive got 2 more interviews lined up but just feel chuffed to have a training contract in the bag, even though they wont pay my fees etc...
Slaughter & May, Wow he must be a straight "A" pupil....Sweet

You know before you apply, for example on Herbert Smith' application form it states they will pay GDL (where appropriate) and LPC course fees aswell as pay £5k a year for living expenses.
Norm only the really big London/International firms do this.
Im funding myself....competition is extreme for those firms!
Unless you've got at least ABB @ A Level and went to a top Uni dont bother trying

Good stuff ;-)
Then apply to a good Uni, I did IT. (Information Technology BSc)
If you graduate in any other degree apart from Law you have to do a "GDL"
(formerly CPE) which cover the seven foundation modules all law graduates did at Uni. Except you only have 1 year not 3
Then if you wanna be a solicitor you do your LPC course, again 1 year.
If its a barrister then your BVC!

wasnt wanting to resit thou, but at least i have a decent reason to resit, rather than having to resit due to doing shit on exam

Yup!
Altho you can imagine how difficult the GDL is.....I'll let you know next year!
Having spoken to a few guys who just did it, its like having no life for a year
_c_o_r_s_a_ - Ooops just realised you did law, you know more than me at this moment in time!
All in all though its v. important to gain experience too.
I sent out over 60 apps for a training contract, so far received around 10 rejections, 1 interview
I also worked 6 years at a County Court where I met a Deputy District Judge who has his own firm and offered me a training contract
Like I said before, not what you know....its who you know

Didn't know before you could just go and do 2 years worth.
Reading the one at my uni there and its 5700 a year to do the 2 year thing.

pay like where?
Course fees arent cheap
@ The College of Law in Guildford where I am going its £5,975.00 for the GDL and then £9k something for the LPC.
A trainees wage differs from area to area, with a London firm £28k is realistic. Outside of London anywhere from £12k to £20k
One International firm "Shearman & Sterling" pay £45k for trainees that goes to £60k + once theyve qualified after 2 years

Im in my last year of a Law degree and shall be doing my LPC next year...so technically im 4 years from being a fully qualified solicitor...seems such a long time when you think about it...
I plan on getting sponsorship through my LPC etc from a company with a traning contract dependant on results...hopefully it all works out...
I go to an academic "red brick" uni which is a decent uni for Law so hopefully it will help me when applying for my training contract...
