306 D Turbo.

Very cheap, only insurance group 5, apparently a couple of hours under the bonnet can unlock another 10 - 15bhp.

Good choice however stay away from the 1.4 Diesels, slow as a week in the jail. Top speed 84mph. Also headgaskets are prone to failure on these. 1.5 Diesel is the best option out of them, 55mpg as standard.

1.5 best version by far, more reliable than the 1.4 and not exactly sluggish either

Sorry, but that is balls. I also have a 306 d turbo and even on a long journey you would be lucky to get 600-650

At the moment it costs about £50 from empty. That would see 600 - 650 miles if you drive sensibly. Have a look here Gavin http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=238471

Who says they do??

Generally they can be serviced like most other cars...every 10,000 miles or 1 year...

from parkers

Engines are reasonably economical, insurance costs are sensible, as are spares prices and servicing costs. Service intervals were initially short (6000 miles), but extended to 9000 in 1993. All diesels need servicing every 6000 miles. Most models can be picked up cheaply and have done most of their depreciating.
