The corsa is in the lowest bracket (£40 down from £65)

Will old corsas (1995 ) be taxed under the new system or is it just for new cars?

dont get me wrong, im not a fan of 4x4's and think its stupid for people to have for just driving round town etc (ie not off road) but surely the 4x4 woners of the country wont just stand by and let that happen

They have'nt got much choice, its harsh on people who need 4x4's though like farmers etc. I hardly think 4x4's are the worst offenders to pollution, but at least it will make the people who dont need one think twice about buying one.

maybe im a little biased but surely its not fair that people with older cars should pay more tax than someone with a newer car that would probably be in the same tax band (ie produce similar emissions)

It's not just 4x4s - anything in the highest CO2 producing band is going up - like Aston Martin Vanquish, etc.

It shouldn't be about whether you "need" one. You should be allowed free choice of what car you want to buy. A 4x4 driver has as much right to use the road, and thus should be charged the same as any other motorist.

I completely agree but if they are going to put road tax up on something they are likely to take it out on the bigger engined cars. Rather than sting the average person with his average car. Personally i'm not bothered the government will do what they want, nothing will stop them so theres not much point complaining.

tbh most people that have 4x4 (posh ones anyhow) are rich so paying a bit more for road tax wont bother them.

My dad has a 4x4 but its a H reg. I dont think hes to pleased.
