had a long argument with my mates last night
His dad has a 172 and he said he could waste a nova redtop van
my argument was their both the same size, but look at how much heavier the clio will be, considering the vans stripped
he replied, but its a 172 cup so its lighter but its still got all the fcuking seats ffs!
whats everyones thoughts, just want to prove the cnut wrong or put up a good argument against him

I personally would be very suprised if a Nova could beat the 172 - I've been in a mates 172 and it certainly doesnt hang about. Im not sure personally that a Nova could keep up with M3's etc as well as the 172. I may be wrong, but Im gonna disagree with u Mertin!

there wasnt anything major done to the nova, if the clio was to win I dont think there would be much in it
the nova was a machine, guy sold it cause it was too fast for him and was willing to swap for a smaller nova

nova would still be lighter than the clio by long shot no abs power steering and all the other toys fitted to the clio and the redtop does also have alot of torque hence why they need stitch welded

The Nova will be lighter definitely but round a track the Clio would eat it

my mate thinks his clio 182 cup is not as quick as my nova redtop but at knockhill on the track a stripped 172 track car just got by me on the straight but dont know if it was standard or not

if the nova is healthy and has nice suspension setup the 172 will be no problem. My friend has a 182, power to weight ratio is very similar to my corsa and theres no separating them down a country lane.

the nova would be quicker newer cars have a lot of safety built like all the side impact bars aqnd all the other crap so it wud be heavier than the nova.id wud definatly put money on the nova.iv senn 2.0 corsas beet scoobys so a clio shudnt b a problem.

I love the comments on this site
Unless you have owned both cars its hard to pass a judgement!
I have owned a 2ltr corsa and now have a 172
my corsa was 165bhp the clio is 179bhp
the corsa weighed just over a tonne id guess with all my bits in
the clio weighs 1050 kgs mines pretty much standard - i have lighter wheels but a stainless backbox so id say its on par with standard weight
now the corsa is much more irratic, spins up in 2nd gear in the dry with ease etc
the clio from a standing start will just accelerate and grip which is pretty impressive and will out handle any corsa/nova on coilovers any day long
the corsa was faster from 60-100 i would say that what the clio is,
if its from a standing start then i would say the clio will pull a good cars length ahead upto 120 say
if its from say 40+ - 120 then the nova will have the edge due to power to weight ratio
i raced mr stocker in his from 70-130 mph and there was nothing in it, but off the line and round corners the clio has a large advantage

Good post Brad, but shame it's about a Corsa
Nova's are ten times lighter with no safety shizzle...work it out yourself

Theres about 150kg difference between a nova and a corsa
as i said before the clio will walk it to 60 mph, round the twisties but mid range speed the nova will take the points

Nova would tear the clio a new asshole drove a 182 recently and its quick but more sedate to drive than an XE you really have to get the clio buzzing to get the power out of it.

nah corsa will be more like 200kg's heavier than the nova, if an xe nova is in good condition it will beat the 172, a xe corsa will be beaten by a 172, if it was a gsi etc with power steering, side impact bars and abs

I've never lost to a 172/182 up the strip and I've done many many runs Put us on a country road and the outcome will be quite different

Iv never had any problems so far with clio 172's in a striped corsa
As for if it was from a standing start then it comes down to driver ability suspension and tyres.

i think a 172 would be a good match in a straight line, however show it a corner and the 172 will wander away, IMO obviously, assuming both are driven by equally good or bad drivers
