Like the top says, knocking sound from the left side of the cam cover (when looking at the engine)

Only happens when revving it over 2K, seems to idle ok, cant really say the performance has been retarded but soon as the noise 'developed' I didn't really give the car any stick.

Oil is at a nice level.

someone in the know came round for alook... said its more then likely cam followers. Trying some cleaner first to see if I can get away with a £5 fix and if that doesnt do it then I shall be looking at replacing them.

The search for prices begins

HORRAH, oil change and shoved some funky WINS stuff in it. Took for a wee thrash after letting it idle for infinity. Now makes a noise on idle ! Will see tomorrow morning what its like from cold

before you go spending £168 on new lifters try changing this spring in the oil pump -

mine used to tap like crazy for about 10-15 mins from cold, changed that spring and its all of about 3 seconds of tapping in a morning now.

bottom end has quite a few bits replaced, the head was pretty much left alone apart from being sleaved.

the person who has diagnosed the problem is typically someone who knows what they are on about with the engine.

I've had a few other people say it sounds top head and could be the lifters, Lee Mitchell might even pop round soon to have a butchers.

Either way, got a good price on the lifters and will be getting them replaced...

OKAY!

The tappets were replaced and the noise was still going.

Sump was whipped off and everythnig looked hunky doory down there.

The pump was checked out and it looked blinging.

So we are now in a situation where the head may be coming off... Mr Mitchell and his big juicy brain think it could well be a valve thats fucked

Is it a tapping noise or is it a rattle that happens now and then?

it was a THUMPing sound...

I've just had a call back to say the thumping has stoped as he tried to start the car but nothing happened...

so he took out the crank sensor and found that it was smashed up to fuck ... hes replaced that and it starts up fine.. what the fuck touched up the crank sensor.
