Just coming back from college and nearly had my first accident

Basically we were both parked, coming out of college at the same time and we both moved off, I was doing about 15ish when I saw her coming, so thought I'd speed up just out of courtesy, but then realised she hadn't noticed me so redlined it from cold in 1st ( ), it was really close she couldn't have been further than 5cm from my door

So glad it didn't happen aswell as I duno whos fault it would have been? In my eyes it was hers for not seeing me driving down the road....

Here's a quick drawing showing what happened as I can't really describe it any better

PS, will it have done any damage redlining it once from cold? The engine had only been running 20 seconds

It was her fault then, you were driving along quite happily, and she didn't look before she pulled out. Basically, her mistake, as she should have observed correctly before she manouvered.

Rcb youve got a thing asking about damage with cars when redlining from cold! My 1.2 8v took redline abuse from start to stop every journey for 2 years and never once broke down or caused problems! so redline away as far as im concerned and stop worrying!

If your drawing is accurate, then she is at fault as you were already driving along.

It's as accurate as a paint drawing can be

I'm pretty sure it was her fault, but still for some reason I feel guilty imagine what I'd be like if she actually went into me

You will soon get used to it My horn and lights are used quite often I'm fed up with driving at the moment; it's so nice to be driven about by friends and family.

Well I've never had any close incidents like this before, suppose everyone's gotta have a 'first time' and I've only been driving like 8 weeks

Actually I don't even know if my horn works to be honest...

Red car entered the path of the blue car, therefore red car is primarily to blame, however there are a number of contributory factors which as the driver of the red car I would looking to make a case of, and as the blue car I would be learning to drive a bit more defensively in future.

Accelerating towards a car which was about to enter your path wasn't the best of ideas.

As for damaging a cold car by redlining it, I wouldn't make a habit of it or you will damage it.
