Right i know i can get insured on a Xe...But what are they like fun wise & reliabilty wise...I use my car everyday.
Im thinking of buying Lyfie engine with all the bits...I know im gonna need to upgrade my brakes as my sport ones wont do the job...What about suspension?.
And ive also been told i should get the car seamed welded as it may start to pull my car apart...My sports on a S plate so it fairly new...

Any advice and comments welcome

To give a different answer to most, i don't find the 2.0 as fun to drive as expected. It seems much more stable at higher speed with the extra weight over the front and i dont have any understeering into corner problems, withthe equal length driveshafts it doesnt spin up pulling off like the 1.6 did nor does it torque steer like the 1.6 did.
Obviously it is quicker and pulls muchbetter but dare i say its a bit to boring to drive!

to drive around in it doesnt feel much different to my 90hp 1,4 nova TBH. Its not unitl you get over 4k and the acceleration increases instead of dying off you realise how much power it really has.

With good tyres and equal length shafts I can sidestep the clutch in 1st with no spin. It really doesnt feel manic or anything on the road, its only when you look down at the dials you realise youre going a lot faster than you thought!

My thoughts exactly. It needs a turbo bolting to it to be fun!

you may need uprated shocks but doubt you would have to seam weld it, the corsa are built a lot stronger than novas as they need welded.

cheap power go 2ltr, high revving nice sound go 1.6 on tb's and forget about the manztel

Don't start that again...

What's your budget?

Cheap and reliable power with more torque = XE

Quite a lot more expensive = 1.6 on TB's

Im gonna go for the 2.0 simple but when i get some more money and NCb il most likely T'b the 2.0 or turbo..i just want something better than my 1.4 and isnt gonna cost me a fortune to build...YET!

how do u do equal lenght shafts on an xe???wot r the pros n cons of this??? my shafts are one long n one short but sure they have to be like that coz of where the the box is????

the drivers side shaft just fits. the passenger side I removed the taper from the end with a late up to the end of the splines, and then machined in a new circlip groove to shorten the shaft by about 6-7mm each end.

Ive got 5mm cv plunge on both sides with the driveshafts horizontal.

Rileysport, you have torquesteertastic driveshafts. What tyres do you run?

yes, the equal length setup replaces the long one with two sections. One is a similar length to the short shaft, and the other is an idler shaft which runs in bearings bolted to the engine block

not sure about a 2.0 but..my 1.6 is so much fun..it just needs that little bit more oomph

84k with a partial history until 60k doesnt sound old and tired to me. Its nothing for an engine at all. TBH as I said, its not slow, it just doesnt feel insane because its fairly well behaved. I like it as a car to drive, but it doesnt scare me the way my mates nova did the first time I drove that in the wet with the tracking out.

The 20xe is good fun, never gonna feel rapid to drive. Its quick when you look at the speedo and realise the speed your doing.
I use my car every day, when its working, and its very practical. Not too bad on petrol if you drive it sensibly.
Best bit of advice i can give you is do the conversion as long as youve sorted some breakdown cover first.

My m8s selling an Xe for cheap but the piston rings are worn...I can slowly re-build/uprate peices of the engine is this worth it..

tyres... kumho ecsta spt's only lose grip when i want to, torque steer isn't that much of an issue either
