Hi Gordon,

The price of the ECU upgrade is £470 inc VAT. You would need to come to us
for the upgrade (Bromsgrove) as none of our installation centres are
equipped to upgrade this model. The process takes approx 2 hours to
complete. Rolling road testing is not included, but is available if you
wish. Full diagnostics and checks are included in the price.

Regards,
Adam.

Chip tuning.

cheaper that dastek and should see same power about 30-40bhp...

And these guys are specialised volvo tuners.

only problem driving to bromsgrove, Birmingham?

I would prefer to pay £400 for a ecu re-map that is tailor made for your car on a rolling road with genuine printouts rather than a 'hit and hope' plug in type of thing.

RICA ECU Upgrades are designed to get the very best out of your Volvo!!! Unleash the full capability of your car. Power and torque increases that give unrivaled performance on the road, together with improved fuel economy. All ECU Upgrades are a complete re-map of your ECU. There are no bolt-on devices or aftermarket chips fitted. All the power increases quoted for petrol cars are using 98 RON super-unleaded petrol such as Shell Optimax. Please see our Questions page for further details.

Our ECU upgrades are developed by RICA who are specialists in tuning Volvos for over 20 years. There are many parameters altered in the engine management system to ensure that the engine is running at maximum efficiency. The diesel ECU upgrade offers smoke free performance that no tuning box upgrade can, and is ideal for towing. All the upgrades are 100% service compliant. For the 1999 and later models, ECU upgrades are done through the OBDII diagnostics port. The car is simply plugged into our system and the ECU is reprogrammed

no idea why but i always thought mav was shortened from your first name.

sorry to go off topic... you remember you were wanting to know how to turn off the auto headlights on your car?

i asked at work and it can't be done manually on your car. it's an easy process that can be done on the computers once connected to your car. costs about £30 but don't quote me on that

this is the bit that worries me, they quote:

All ECU Upgrades are a complete re-map of your ECU. There are no bolt-on devices or aftermarket chips fitted ECU upgrades are done through the OBDII diagnostics port. The car is simply plugged into our system and the ECU is reprogrammed

and then they go on to say:

The process takes approx 2 hours to
complete. Rolling road testing is not included

so that means they have a pre-programmed 'map' that they use to overwrite the standard one in the ecu. they will make changes to ignition timing, fuelling and possibly adjust the parameters of certain signals such as intake air temp etc....

without giving it a full new 'map' that is tailor made for your car, how can they be sure that the fueling and ignition timing is spot-on? even being a few degrees out on ignition timing etc... can leat to detonation and a very poorly engine. running slightly lean can be even worse. A solution to be sure would be to put it on a rolling road whilst being mapped, oh wait, they dont do that. Its guesswork mapping, similar to a Superchip etc....

Get it done properly!

plus the dastek one can easily be removed and you are back to standard again. the other one cant.

also, if you add more mods, i.e turn up the boost, cams etc... then you can get the dastek re-mapped to make the most of them.
