Its pretty basic tbh I just wasn't sure at all.
Basically Im a joiner doing work for friends of the family, a garage conversion.
Theres electricity running in there to a sort of mini fusebox , anyway I had to fix studs to the wall so removed thisfrom the wall , but when it came off it popped and sparked at the bottom , think its damaged the cable.
Was told it wasn't live but obviously it is !
Gone to the fusebox to see if I can switch it off but the same fuse is connected to the house alarm !
Anything I can do ?
( This should be in geek day I think ! )
Cheers
Gregor

take the fuse out for something like shower and stick it in temp till tomorrow.
so did you disconnect the cable from the fusebox? or have to put a nail through it? i cant really make out what you have done

No when the metal pipe the cable came off the wall it was rusty at the bottom , and this has cut into the cable , causing it to pop/spark.
Thing is the fuse hasnt blown and I don't want to fcuk the alarm

Removing the fuse to the house alarm whilst you repair the fusebox in the garage won't affect the alarm, provided its batteries are in good working order.

also i presume its gone bang in the garage? it will be fed from the house? inless the house is old just flick the breaker back on, if its old you will need to get some fuse wire.
just a tip - take front cover off and the might be some in there. I usually always leave some in a customers house just incase, alot of other sparkys do too.

I dont care about the box in the garage though as it was useless anyway , so can i just leave it till the electrician starts ?
All Im worried about is fire tbh

Do you know the engineers code for the alarm panel? If you remove power from the panel overnight without putting it into engineer mode, it may cause an alarm when the battery fianlly goes flat.

its unsafe then , the cable will need replacing. turn it off and leave it off. the house alarm will have a battery life of about 6hours , after that it will go into fault, the alarm wont go off.
or be a cowboy ,turn it off in the house , put some electrical tape around the cut and turn it back on.

Shouldn't worry too much about fire.. if the fuse blows, its done its job & prevented a fire. If not, then there shouldn't be any chance of a fire. (but don't quote me on that! lol)

That depends on the panel, and the condition of the panel battery...
I have come across some that cause an alarm if both power sources are disrupted without entering engineer code. (Remember, the batterys in the bell boxes are seperate to the panel.)

if i was you , id just turn it off . turn the breaker off , open the panel and disconnect the battery in the alarm panel.
let the electrician sort it when he arrives

I think I'd rather go for the cowboy option

But woudn't opening the panel cause a tamper alarm.. triggering the bell box?

correct , but they dont usually go off. if you put panel into engineer mode the alarm will not sound

ok turn it off in the house. Go into garage and test the power to the board is dead (plug something in that you know works)
have a look at the cable, it will be black where its blew, pull back the grey insulation, and put some tape around that core, then put a load around the cable, if nothing can touch it and its not going to be touched then it wont set on fire
