They arn't awesomely quick but my dad had his de-cat'd, upgraded fuel pump and re-map and its now 280bhp and isn't shy. You could probably pick up a half decent bugeye for about 7k though

uhm for 7k uk turbo im afraid if you dont want older than 2000.

an STi 6 on a W/V can fetch 12k

If you look hard enough and you are lucky you might get a fairly decent STi 4 for that money. The type R`s do attract more money again have seen STi 3/4 Type R's for over 10k.

Have a look on pistonheads to see what 7k will get you. you might get yourself a nice 99/00 uk turbo with a few mods.

you really do get what you pay for with these cars, unless you are very lucky.

check the GC number on the VIN plate agaisnt websites that have the full model listings. my old impreza STi was on a W plate but was in fact a 98 version 4. The guy tried to sell it as a version 6.

nice uk turbo here for 7k :

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/88645.htm

version 3 type R, only 6.5k i dont like it personally though tbh http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/83483.htm

version 4 type R, looks a steal http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/82132.htm

plenty of version 4 STi's they all start at 7.5k upwards though.

The Ver. III is a bit ott, but the Ver. IV is absolute gorgeous and 330bhp! And I'm guessing its been owned by an enthusiast so it'll be in good nick, a bargain by the looks of it.

I would still approach it with caution, although factory figures are 280 bhp commonly accepted they make 300. needs more than exhaust to get 330 though, hope he hasnt just whacked on a boost controller.

Id go for it if it had a massive pile of paperwork, plus its around the 60k STi red top die a death engine phase. maybe im paranoid by a huge number of STi`s do throw engines, even standard ones.

You may be right there, its also suspicious that its at a bargain price because of a scuffed bumper... but its definately a car to be looked into.

What about an Evo? If your VERY lucky you might get hold of a 5 for 7k. Deff a 4 though, and we all know they are superior to Scoobys
