Right deffo buying a missus a car in next few months which will be the family car, 5 door astra 1.6 sort of thing..
So really thinking about sellling the T4 and getting something more as a toy..
Was thinking another XE but wanted better reliabilty, even though I had no probs with me last one there is always that niggle in your head..
So thoughts are now...
1.6 sport maybe already got suspension etc done...IE wrightys white one as an example so no money to be spent on exterior..
So 1.6 sport say 2k
And 2k to spend on engine bits.. what could i likely get bhp wise out of it with that amount of cash..
And with the engine mods whats going to be done with the stats approx, 0-60 etc etc...
Broster / dave a etc get in here
thought about
saxo
golf gti mk2 etc too but would like a corsa again, dunno why

get a 1.6 sport, its got a decent spec
then get an inlet, exhaust manifold, cams, remap, headwork and a full system, and you'll have about 145bhp
then spend a bit on a set of konis, v6 brakes and some wheels
job done
145bhp will make a fun car, and itll be reliable still

Think so if what was listed by rob was to be included.
Because you have fitting of it all as well

TBs wont be as reliable really
buy Wrighty's car, and spend 2k on the engine, if you spend wisely, you'll get most of what i said (maybe not the headwork)

and yeah, tbs would cost you more than 2k, with all the bits that go with them, like cams and exhaust manifold etc

forget about the inlet route, its a dead end at a not so 'real' 150 bhp
bring the car to me and for £2200 you can have tb's standalone management etc.. all fitted and mapped and 150 'real' bhp
if you liked your 2 litre then you would love this! plus when more cash is available you can look at cams and headwork and see 180 bhp.

why not? mine has been super reliable for 12k miles since I fitted the tb's
if its done properly it will be fine. IMO a tb'd 1.6 is far more reliable than a standard one, far less to go wrong. im still getting about 35mpg as well. its all in the fitting and mapping

just from experience....
as soon as you start doing stuff to an engine its opening a can of worms. The x16xe is a cunt with all its sensors n shit anyway, so maybe not the best example.
More stress on parts (revs), power through transmission etc...
Just saying its not OE, so it'll take more looking after basically

but with TBs you run about 3 sensors
i'd agree with dave, a relatively tame tb setup wouldnt be overly unreliable
