Finally got my refund from ebuyr for the Maxtors. Glad that's all over. Need to choose something new. Just realised too the Maxtors set me back £70 each
So could you recomend me something that has a 300GB capacity, that isn't Maxtor and that will do the job for me nicely Oh, and preferably less than £70

I buy OEM stuff from ebuyer normally so it works out cheaper. I really don't need a box with some stickers and a CD Rom in it So the 500 GB one could have been worth looking at Maybe I'll get some for the SATA 3 and 4 plugs on my mobo so I can set up another RAID array

Seagate drives, never ever EVER had problems with them...all the maxtors drives ive owned have failed within 2-3years (lost a lot of uni work last year!)
Cant got wrong with samsung stuff neither, very quiet drives but you have to pay for that though!

Plus, they will be fine because they aren't Maxtor.
A note to anyone with an Nforce 4 chipset. Do not under any circumstances use Maxtor HDD's ever. It's infuriating

Think there is a firmware fix now for the HD problems and the lastest Nforce chipset drivers are supposed to help.

A firmware fix which doesn't fix the problem. I gave Maxtor a piece of my mind. Especially when they sent me tier diagnosis program to detect the error which is also non-nforce compatible. They take the piss, thier hardware does not support nforce, neither does theire software, yet it took me 3 hours after spedning over £130 on HDD's to find this out after readinf rhumors on forums.
Anyhow, have the WD's coming next week so all is good

Samsungs with the adjustable noise / work level. You can set the drives so they are quiet but they spin at 5400 rpm. Or if you want performance it comes at a price of loudness.
Seagates are good ( last one died but got a new one on warranty ), Im still liking my Maxtor Diamonmax 10 250gb 16mb cache ide hard drive its been spot on and is quiet.
I had a seagate before and it was the loudest thing in my machine and it was annoying. ( yes im hardcore for noise ).

Also we just had in some seagate barracuda 750gb hard drives. When put into windows the conversion works out to loose 50gb
Also had some raptors in that come in wierd soft pouches, and has a perspects top so you can see the disc spinning.
