need to build a new website for the new business. need to start by buying the domain name. And then is there any software I can use to build the site (thats easy to use)

any advice on who to buy it from or use etc.....

i perfer asp.net and you'll need at least microsoft access for databases. SQL etc..

do it your self its not hard to pickup, only need to get a company involved if you want to setup a whole shopping cart based site etc

Erm, I run through about 5-7 websites a day at work, and its kind of hard to remember all of them, so give me a moment so I can try to recall some..

I cant really give any out for this new company yet as we are setting up at the mo still, idealy we are looking for example sites..

I can show you sites of the company I work for which I work on, and design.

But i cant show you any personal sites as last time I did that on this forum the bandwidth went through the roof! haha

No, avoid 1and1.co.uk..
.
I have nothing but hassel when I used them.

Prices are abit obserd for what they offer, cheap for .co.uk registration tho.

They dont offer webdesign either.

never had any problems with them , host about 6/7 domians with them never had any downtime.

I have bought a domain name and hosting from 1and1

did a bit of research after nismo's reccomendation and all I could find is good reports about them:

One is on an linux based server the cheaper one and the other is on a windows based server.


Which one you get really depends on the which code you want the dynamic code in.

I like PHP and would go for the Linux one. But it's up to the site designer at the end of the day.

Yeah as Jodi said its the type of software the server runs allowing you to do different things on each.

It all depends what you want the site to do. Static HTML then go on the Linux one. No need paying the extra if you not going to use any databases etc. If you are as Ed meantion its all up to the site designer. On which code they prefer.

What about a wendesday?

All depends on what you want i prefer linux for a standard website witha few features.

But for a more advance site I prefer ASP/VB so a windows server.

Linux for stability yeah, but ASP.net don't run to well on it thats if he is going to develope a .NET solution. But i imagine it will be a straight forward html or maybe php/jsp site.

TBH if you want a professional looking database driven website then it is pointless trying to do it yourself IMO.

But then again paying a company to do it won't be cheap either, as soon as you mention the word database to a professional web design company, their prices easily go over £1500.

Do you just want a static website to advertise the company or do you want an online catalog?
