no point paying £900+ just to throw it in the bin in 12months time. It may be the better format but with microsoft, toshiba etc backing HD, im affraid i can see it joining betamax

Yes because there are no big name players backing blu-ray.
And sony don't own that many movies either

there are big companies backing blu ray, blu ray has MGM but HD DVD has Universal studios apart from that the others are backing both. However with the likes of Microsoft, intel and toshiba in HD DVD's corner together with the delicate and costly manufacturing of blu ray it seems HD DVD will take the lead.
blu ray also needs a thin surface 0.1mm in order for the laser to focus, DVD has 0.6 therefore making them more scratch resistant and cheaper to produce

NOBODY knows who will win yet.
Blu ray is more expensive just now yes.
Blu ray might also lose the battle.
At the moment you don't have a clue who will end up victorious.

blu-ray has the ps3 on its side, so will never die out, the xbox360 has hd-dvd add on, so it will never die, im getting sick of this fukin betamax vs. vhs bollocks, its more like intel vs. amd or ati vs. nvidia. same shit different smell. and in 12 months so low budget outfit from china will have brought out a player that plays both (like the current vhs/dvd players)
