Ive done a search but there isnt great explanation as to the downside of using an induction kit.
Really what is best ?
What are the effects of using an induction kit , in terms of poor performance ? Making the car run rich ?

I thought the idea of an induction kit (air filter am I right?) was to make the performance better?

an induction kit make the car sound better but to be honest you will only see a small increase in bhp if any at all.another problem is that induction kits like cone filters suffer from"heat soak" which is heat from the engine bay which actuaaly makes your car less responsive.Viper induction kits cut out the heat soak using a closed system with a direct cold air feed that locates to your car at the front bumper somewhere.Another thing with induction kits is some people think that if its getting 3 times as much air to the filter itll make you go faster but it wont as your car can only get rid of so much air via the exhaust etc!Id go with the orig air box and drillit and put a performance panel filter in it.

i use to have a pipercross and pvd induction cones and they made a awsome sound and gave a few bhp, then i fitted my bmc with the cold air feed to the morette and made such a difference, it got rid of all the flat spots that i had with the inductions

What if I were to seal mine somehow , would there be an improvement ?

It was from stting off from a stand still, I found the car needed revving more to pull away smoothly. I'm not sure if its down to the heat or the fact they work best when there is a good source of air available, ie when the car is going quickly or being revved.

i think it depends on what induction setup you go for.I have a mate with a bmc setup on a clio 182 and it sounds awesome and gives it a bit more ooomph.Not that it needs it thought!!

the problem with cone induction kits is hot air from the engine, so with a enclosed one like mine it doesnt get hot air plus it had a really good air feed

I had an induction kit on and it ran like a bag of nails... it was so flat below 3k, so i removed it, went back to a drilled airbox and it felt completely different low down and i'm sure it actually reduced my power due to the amount of hot air getting to it...

ive got a viper on my Xe and i will never buy a open induction kit every again they are crap..IMHO...Sealed Enclosure induction kits with cold air feed are the way forward...No heat soak,Flats spots ect

bollocks. My Corsa had a K&N, PiperX and i can say that even when it was rr and remapped the filter never caused a flatspot.
I now have one on my GTi-6 and it causes no problems and with the Decat and exhaust it revs much butter/harder

that would work as the airbox would act as a heat shield, admitting when i had a K&n it was poor, the car would judder if u put ur foot down in lower evs etc, it wud pop from time to time really loud, then put an enclosed one on and problem solved.
