The current owner of my old purple corsa has had it impounded by tayside police because there are no door handles.
when ive been stopped for police checks nothing was said about them, it passed an MOT as well. I wasnt aware such a modification was illegal.
In order for him to get car back, he has to pay £115 and turn up along with documents and a trailer for the car. He must then return with the car with new doors that have handles for it to be inspected. He can then drive legally.
There are hundreds of cars with this mod. I feel pretty sorry for the guy actually. He loves the car.
Anyone ever heard of this?

WTF, does that mean all TVRs now have to be impounded?!
As long as there is a way of opening it from the outside (Button that pops the doors) then i didn't think it was a problem?

Doesn't he owe you money still?
Does it have solenoids that can be used externally?

So does it have a button anywhere to open the doors other than the key fob?

basicaly as far as the law is concerned there has to be a means for someone to open the door externally. when unlocked. (iirc)
in case of an accident or that sorta thing.

Im pretty sure if there was an accident, in which case the doors need to be opened from the outside, the glass if it is even still intact would be the easiest option

the windows down loop hole has now been closed and wont work anymore. However if there are buttons on the outside of the car then its legal to have nop door handles, as said you need a method of entry that is apart of the car IE buttons, and not just a remote alarm fob.

All tvr's have no door handles and have a button under the wing mirrors. They also have emergency handles in the boot for each door.

Unless we establish whether or not there are buttons under the mirrors for example, we could speculate all day. I say one unlucky bastard.
What gets me is this....even if they are buttons under the mirrors, how many people (bar most of us on here) would even think about using them if the unimaginable happened? Daft....

hardly daft, if a bad accident occurs how they going to open the doors if its bent? your all reffering to an accident like a one outcome posibility.
Theres nothing wrong with solenoids.
I take it hes been trouble making in the car? Only reason i can see they would try and pull that, i think its ever so petty to lock someones car up and make them pay £££ unless coppers get cash off the impound, which wouldnt suprise me

my understanding of it is there HAS to be a mechanical way of opening the doors from the outside in case of an accident etc. and thats to pass the mot.
