i like the look of the rallye,but the gti undoubtedly has the better engine,
ideally a rallye with a tu lump

one is 1.6 8v singleoverhead camthe other is 1.6 16vdouble overhead camone has about 100bhp the other about 120-130bhp
one is faster than the other

The rallye has no goodies inside like leccy windows, mirrors, lether etc where the gti has plus its not as quick as the gti

depends whos driving, the rallye is a bit lighter but the gti is faster in a straight line

my mate has a 106 xsi with a vts lump in, with cams, chip, stainless mainfold and exhaust, quick shift gear linkage and few other uprated parts and that is very quick!!!

what areas are you focusing on though? As said, the GTi has leccy windows, half leather (sometimes full leather) seats etc and is slightly quicker in a straight line. The rallye, I'd imagine would be slightly better round the bends as its lighter, but it all depends on what you want from the car really. Some creature comforts and quicker in a straight line, or a purer drivers car?

I would personally go with the GTi if your using it day today and you do alot of miles, easier to live with.

s2 rallye is only 1.6 8v,s1 is 1.3 8v both are TU series engines as are the later engined 205's (except gti)

I think the Nova will win in a drag especially seeing as the 1.3 SR is faster in 4th than it is 5th
