Help me out guys n gals. I'm obsessed with the Astra VXR in arden blue... which is going for around 15k second hand at the moment. It's likely I'm gonna go for that, but I'd like to know what you'd recommend as alternatives.

Porsche Boxter
Lotus Elise
VX220
S2000
Impreza WRX
Evo of some kind
Lots to choose from, with more to offer than an Astra VXR
Or you could wait & get the Corsa VXR

hmmm for fast but nearly new car i would look at the astra or vectra vxr, ford mondeo st 220, focus st.
bmw e39 m5 if you dont might the car being around 5 years old but you get a car thats the same pace as the monaro vxr
or what about an e46 330ci? 15k will get you a nice one or if you dont mind above average miles then e46 m3

You won't get an E46 M3 for 15k, even high mileage Y plate no spec'd examples are going for 16-18k.
What do you want from a car?

some great suggestions there... i do have a big soft spot for the e46.
tbh i want looks, i'm going from a corsa c 1.4 sri so any car mentioned here the performance increase is going to be massive anyway.
out of all those: e46 m3, dc5, astra vxr, s2000 (no particular order) sound most appealing

You'll struggle to get a decent enough E46 M3 for £15k. You also need to consider running costs - they are extremely high as my dad has been finding out.

How about an Astra Gsi MK4?
Can get them in Arden Blue and also cheaper than the VXR.

i also think the astra vxr would be a very good choice so long as you dont plan on selling it soon

He had a bulge in the side wall of one of his tyres - 'cause of the tyre pressure gauge on the dash etc and various other reasons, you have to replace all 4 tyres.
He was considering getting an extended BMW warranty for one year (it has gone up to over £1k because of the EU for some reason). They mentioned it could be worth it, because a new engine is nearly £9k.

The E39 M5's are riddled with faults apparently - and being BMW they are expensive to replace.
