How would you go about doing this? As mine is still burning oil after pistion ring and valve stem seal change. The lad who did the work said my bores might be worn, how would you fix that? new block?

get a rebore with oversized rings/ pistons and rings. should always have a rebore when replacing rings anyway. depending on the engine it might be cheaper just to buy another bottom end

didnt the person that replaced the rings check the bores first?

where is it burning, stem seals or rings?

rebore isnt necessary with the rings as long as the bores were honed the rings should be fine. a rebore is only really necessary if there is exessive wear as usually found on very high milage engines.

He did check them, and he re-honed the bores, yes.

Thats the thing Dave, I'm not sure where it's burning it.

Smokes ALOT more when the engine is near 100oC if thats any help...

100 deg is fine, it's not too hot.

Is it burning under load when it's hot? or just at idle? or even when you back off?

when mapping mine last week it got upto 115 degrees a few times, up to 120 is fine on an engine in good condition.

get a leakdown compression test done to find out why its smoking, could even be a dud coolant temp sensor thats causing overfuelling at high temps, that will cause lots of smoke.

Robin - not when i'm on the gas at all..

It's when I engine brake from quite high revs, and then as soon as I dump the clutch to idle, it will stop. Seems to smoke like a bitch when its near 100oC

Dave - Where could you get these leakdown compression tests done?

So it's on rundown then, I reckon it's a blocked breather.

yes, blocked breather can cause same symptoms. take the 2 breather pipes off the cam cover and blow down them, shold feel very little resistance.

if they are blocked, remove the pipes and clean them out. DONT try and blow the blockage out as it will just cause the sludge to drop back into the crankcase.

The head bolts torqued up properly?Maybe the head wasnt skimmed when it came off?Is it still losing coolant and/or mixing oil and water?

If the breathers are blocked, you'll have sludge.

Took the top of my breather pipe just (the fatter one of the two) and it looked like someone has bought lots of pots of mayo from maccys and tipped them down there

Just need to find out what root it takes to the crank?

As far as I can see, it goes under the coil, and then behind the engine. Where abouts on the sump does it go?
