Fcukin engine has died AGAIN

Started last night when, It started ticking over at 1600-1700rpm, and a loud noise coming from near the inlet. Today, did a few little runs, and it was fine, come to start it again, wont start.

I thought maybe it could be ICV, so I gave it a bit of gas on start up, ran for about 2 seconds, on three cylinders, ratterling, and banging. Now wont even turn over, just makes a little noise then stops

Anyone know whats up with it?

flat battery? if its not turning over...

or maybe the cam belt has snapped and the valve has jammed a piston?

will it turn over by hand?

Thank the lord your online

Isn't flat, didn't turn it over for very long.

Just sounds stuck

I've had a look at the cambelt, thats all fine.

How do you turn it over by hand?

Cannot get to it.

Just put it in gear, and rocked it, the engine will go backwards, but as soon as it goes forward it will lock and will lock the wheels up before the engine turns over.

There was a big clunk when it fired up for a couple of seconds

There isn't enough room, so I take it you have to jack it up and remove the wheel. Havent got a socket for it anyway

Think i've got bent valves TBH

My step-dad said engine can run higher when the timing gets advanced. So this would explain it.

no, just reach down with a long bar, sure a 15mm socket fits over it. or jack driver side up and remove the wheel, will see it then. remove spark plugs to help make it easier to turn as well.

could even be jammed in gear? checked that yet?

Good thinking. It's not stuck in gear. Thats all fine.

My step-dad said to jack it up, and turn the wheel round.

if you put it in a gear and jack one wheel up you should be able to turn the engine over by turning that wheel!

As dave said take the plugs out to make it easier!

but that way you wont feel if theres any slight contact if there is any.

just do it by hand on the crank.

If I have bent valves, i'll just get a c16xe head if thats the case. I can't see how the timing has gone out if everything is still in one peice?

might not have, might be something simple or a valve guide decided to crack or 100 other possibilities.

but from your description it sounds as if the engne or box is jamming. turning it over by hand is a good place to start to find out why.

Took the spark plugs out today. 1, 2 & 4 were fine. 3, however, wasent.

You see the the bit that bends round the top to make the spark? (electrode I think) well, on mine there are two of them, and there both bent up, quite badly

This means? Valve has hit it?

My mate, who is a vauxhall machanic said, the belt seems loose, which could be down to the tensioner has worn so it's slipped a few teeth.

Also worth investing in some nice SBD rollers and GM tensioners.

I bent 4 valves on mine when i rebuilt the head... i miss timed it by i few teeth!

PS... if you need to borrow my cam locking tool then let me know and ill post it to you.

Trust me its worth having one if you havent got one!

Rob
