currently I am an apprentice partsman in the motor trade, the job itself is not bad but the wages are shit.
i've been thinkin a lot lately about wanting to join the fire brigade and i foned up today and you dont need any formal qualifications but you have to pass a lot of tests but i think i would be capable of it.
they are recruiting from the 2nd of july so that gives me 2 months to get my fitness back up to scratch.
i used to be fit and play football regularly but got banned for 3 years for hitting a ref

what does every1 think of joining the fire brigade?
is any1 here a firefighter??

I applied once, like dave said its difficult to get in, when I was there there was guys in there 30's trying for like the 6th time to get in. You need to do an English & numerical test, then fitness test, grip test, ladder test, smoke test, then a pannel interview, then a presentation infront of the fire chief!!

If you do it then to you, its dangerous job for crap pay but atleast you could say it never be boring and the satisfaction of saving lives must be amazing. I cant say id find the site of dead boddies and RTA victims etc etc easy to stomach tho.

yeah so do i tbh considering the average wage in the north east is something like £18,000 im sure round here fire men start off on £24,000 odd thats pretty good considering the ammount of hours they work ect, and the fact most of them have second jobs.

It's rare that it's dangerous, most of the time they spend on their arses watchign DVD's, in the gym, playing 5 a side, washing cars, volleyball, etc. they don't spend all day running through flames and dragging blondes out of fires .......... most of the time they have to run to the local school to turn the alarm off it's a proper cushy job

Im applying on the 2nd aswell mate, best off applying for fife, lothians and central as it gives you a better chance.
Fitness isnt to hard, well im going by black watch standards here. But theres a bleeb test which only goes upto level 9.

I have a good advantage though, my uncle is very high up so shouldnt be a problem for me

What age are you cam1?
