Might be going on a "Save money mission" and I want to get rid of my SRi as it's got quite a few miles on it. I used to have a 1.2 8v and it seemed quite sluggish, just wondered would a 1.0 have a bit more poke to it?

I don't expect it to be a rocket and I'm not too worried about speed just need it more econimical and wouldn''t mind it having a little more poke than a 1.2

Go for a 1.2 16 valve - these are quite quick for a 1.2

1.0 12v over a 1.2 8v but 1.2 16v is a much better engine

I have a 1.0 12v - they're are ok. I wish it was faster though. I would go for the 1.2 16 sxi if you can. Better interior, power stearing and c entral locking.
Unless you're like Deano and go for the fancy version

1.2 16v is a good engine  not bad at all.
i'd imagine a 1.0 12v to have more poke than a 1.2 8v due to the 10bhp more but you'll probably have to rev the shit out the car to try and pick up some speed so will probably be less economical depending on how you drive.

I have driven a 1.2 16v Corsa C, which iirc, has pretty much the same engine.
I'd go for the 1.2 imho.
The 12v is quite economical, but because you have to rev it to get anywhere, I can see why it isn't. Also, sitting at 70mph on the motorway, the revs are quite high, so the engine is using quite a bit of fuel.
I have heard the 1.2 16v's don't have very good fuel economy either.
The 1.0 12v is going to be a newer engine/car, which is a bonus over a 1.2 8v, unless you get an S or T-reg 1.0 12v, when 1.2 8v's were still out.
Go for a GLS if you want a few creature comforts.
So yeah, 12v over 8v, 1.2 16v over both of them, like previously mentioned.
I have also heard 1.2 8v's to be pretty hard wearing, if you're looking for something reliable. However, my 12v has done nearly 70k, I've done nearly 10k in it and it hasn't missed a beat, touch wood.

go for the 1.2 16v
absolutely pisses all over 12v and the old 8v and i normally get 320 350 to a tank driving mixed normal and rag
if that made any sense let me know

I get appauling fuel economy in the 12v tbh. Never run it into the red BUT it gets near red 280. And that is with BP Ultimate, which supposedly gives better fuel economy.
Think I may just resort back tbh.

Don't buy a 1.2 8v they are horrendously slow and sluggish lol the only good thing is I get 420 to a tank

1.2 16 valve man Sxi b's are cool...look like sports just the 1.2...seems best bet i think...if ure really after economics go diesel the 15td and 1.7's do stupid amount to the tank...i used to drive a 1.7 was great on the motorway

my advice is get an early corsa with a 1.2 8v. will easy gett 400 miles to a tank. they WILL do 90-100 on the motorway and they are so easy to fix and get parts for. In saying that i have never had a 1.2 8v engine break on me niether! 1.0 12v has 3 cylinders NUFF SAID ... 1.2 16v have about 20 HP more granted BUT an 8v will have it off the line coz everyone who has a 1.2 16v knows that they dont have any grunt whatsoever untill 4K rpm. 8v is nippy up to 4.5K revs  down to personal preferance!

i get 400-440 from my 12V a tank and thats on BP regular. i live in Cov atm and city drivin isnt economical but when i do get out its for an hour Mway...im impressed with it with the K&N and exhaust (and my heavy right foot wen in the right mood) i seem to be beating you all!! not bad for a 10yr old car on 70k

 Mines on similar mileage as yours Fonz - I must just boot it everywhere, when going to Uni and back. Fannying around in rush hour traffic doesn't work.
